  • The Artistic Evolution: Explore Mike’s transition from various art forms to hardscape design, discovering a true calling in creating visually stunning outdoor spaces that seamlessly blend comfort, allure, and functionality.

All of my life, I’ve been passionate about art, expressing myself through drawing, painting, sculpting, and even tattooing. My journey led me to landscaping during my teenage years, working alongside my stepfather. Fueled by an entrepreneurial spirit, it was while constructing my first retaining wall that I discovered my true calling. Transitioning into my own hardscaping company, I’ve spent the past six years honing my skills as a hardscape and masonry contractor. In essence, my mission is to build visually stunning outdoor spaces and masonry features that seamlessly blend comfort, allure, and functionality. I enjoy and take great pride in creating environments that go beyond aesthetics, providing the backdrop for lasting memories.

  • Beyond Aesthetics: Uncover how Rock-Pebble-Shears goes beyond mere aesthetics, crafting environments that serve as backdrops for lasting memories. Mike’s attention to detail and artistic mindset sets the company apart, ensuring each project is a masterpiece.

I offer a level of quality that can only be matched by someone with an artistic, perfectionist mindset. As the owner and operator, I am always on site for the critical and detail-oriented parts of the project. I personally enjoy working with different types of media when working with pavers and building retaining walls. By that I mean various colors and textures of dry cast pavers, wet cast pavers, natural stone, added lighting, etc. Our style of design is always striving for a classy, elegant look. My job is to cater to my customers aesthetic preferences of modern, sheik, classic, rustic, organic, or contemporary. As their contractor, my responsibility is to suggest recommendations that blend well with the style of their home.

  • Personalized Touch: Dive into the intersection of art and hardscaping as Mike leverages his background in art and tattooing to bring a personalized touch to outdoor projects, with precise cuts, designs, and a keen eye for aesthetics.

As a teenager I went to Dracut Highschool and earned the title of “most artistic” for my class superlatives. After taking a few art courses in college, it was time for me to transition into the work force. Between Landscaping with my stepfather and tattooing my friends I would practice drawing designs and painting on canvas. I really enjoyed the pressure and permanent aspect of tattooing, and greatly disliked mowing the same lawns week after week.

In 2017 My stepdad and I finally got an opportunity to build our first retaining wall project together. That is when I knew that this could be another rewarding outlet to express my creativity in a semi-permanent way. I could also fill a greater demand for hardscape work than the amount of tattoo requests I was receiving. I knew that owning my own hardscape company would be more rewarding than landscaping, painting, and tattooing combined. When I’m cutting perfectly straight lines or perfect curves into a patio border, I am in my element. It feels like I swapped my paint brush or tattoo machine for a diamond blade saw to create a permanent and functional piece of art.

  • Innovations in Hardscape: Explore the integration of technology and innovative solutions, from radiant heating to melt snow to outdoor sound systems and landscape lighting, enhancing the functionality and beauty of outdoor spaces.

When my clients hire me, my imagination taps into all aspects of outdoor design. For example, if my client requests a patio, I am already thinking about adding lighting for added functionality, visibility, safety, and aesthetics. If there is something outside that needs to be accessible in the colder months of the year such as a driveway, outdoor kitchen, or hot tub, I will suggest preemptively installing a heated walkway to automatically melt the snow and ice. Most of the time my customers aren’t even aware that these are options available to them.

I have had the majority of my customers accept these add-ons in the estimate I gave up front. These customers report back to me that I went above and beyond, exceeding their expectations for the project. I’ve constructed seating walls with automatic lighting that were originally going to be just a basic wall. My extra creativity and attention to small details isn’t for everyone, but it genuinely separates us from the average mainstream landscape construction company.

I highly recommend this team of professionals. They have an amazing attention to detail, provide recommendations on landscaping ideas and leave each project cleaner from where they started! We cannot wait to have them back to work on our outdoor kitchen this fall!” -Amanda S.

“Rock-Pebble-Shears has done a couple of jobs for us already since we discovered them last year. First they did a major cleanup and shrub trimming. They also repaired some problems sections of our front walk and patio, seamlessly blending the repairs into the 18-year-old pavers that were already there. Finally, they did a spring spruce-up and mulching. Our property hasn’t looked this good in a long time!” -Kris C.
